The Academy House was designed by architect Otto Reichert-Facilides and was built in 1977. This 576 residential unit condominium was one of the first buildings in Philadelphia that was designed and built to be a condominium, not an apartment building. The Barclay
The Barclay was completed in 1929 by the world famous JER Carpenter company known for numerous New York City high-rise including the Empire State Building and many others on both Park and 5th Avenues. The building was modeled after the Ritz in Paris and operated primarily as a hotel for years until 1972 when the building became mixed-use housing and consisted of 28 condominium units and 280 hotel rooms. In 1999, the building was fully converted to a condominium building. Each home in The Barclay has soaring 10 foot ceilings and many still have the original hardwood flooring and plaster moldings. The average home is between 3,000 to 4,000 square feet, although the building does offer some smaller floorplans.
